Boutique Hotels – Part 2

Sydney and Melbourne aren’t the only 2 Australian cities to have discovered the charms of romantic escapes to boutique hotels.

Winery Weekends

Brisbane has some great exclusive accommodation with places like Spicers Balfour Hotel in funky New Farm, which may be small and intimate, but has superb service and a great rooftop bar, and the stunning, award winning Emporium Hotel in bustling Fortitude Valley, rated for it’s excellent service. Just up the road are the swish The Limes Hotel with its sleek designer looks and the equally contemporary Chester’s Hotel with its obliging staff.

At present, Perth appears to have fewer boutique hotels than her east coast cousins, but one definite shining star is the elegant The Richardson Hotel & Spa which is famous for making its guests feel like VIPs. There is also the heritage-listed The Melbourne Hotel in the centre of the city and the large Northbridge Hotel with its abundance of spas. And if themed in your thing, you can’t go past Miss Maud’s Swedish Hotel.

Down in South Australia, one of the best places to stay in Adelaide is the Adabco Boutique Hotel, which combines clean modern lines inside with a heritage-listed, Venetian Gothic Style facade outside.

Hobart is definitely a hot tourist destination at the moment, what with the rave reviews for its impressive Museum of Old and New Art – MONA – and the traveler’s bible, The Lonely Planet, anointing it one of the top cities to visit in 2013. Hobart accommodation ranges from stylish through to cutting edge, with all the stops in between. The small, but perfectly formed Islington Hotel is a sophisticated hideaway jammed with art and antiques, but if art really does it for you, then stay at The Henry Jones Art Hotel – a swanky boutique hotel which does exactly what it says on the packet and is great for romantic getaways.

Up the top end in Darwin there is luxury accommodation with a tropical flavour. The Mandalay Luxury Stay offers graceful furnishings liberally sprinkled for attractive art works and the Villa La Vue is a clean, chic villa with all the amenities you’d expect of an exclusive place to stay. Similarly, the Moon Shadow Villas is luxury self-contained accommodation, rather than a hotel, with elegant Asian décor.

The nation’s capital, Canberra, has some interesting new additions to its romantic weekend’s accommodation list. New Acton, a 'living art and design precinct’ just north of Lake Burley Griffith boosts both a sleek Diamont Hotel and the yet to be opened Hotel Hotel which promises a range of décor styles and amenities all under one roof. Then there is the multi award winning Hotel Realm right next door to Parliament House with its chic furnishings and the very latest in in-room technology.

This is just a taste of some of the boutique hotels currently attracting guests in our major cities, there are many more to choose from and, if you head into the country, there are yet more gems just waiting for you to book a few days away for romantic getaway with the one you love.
